-----Background-----
Project Barricade began in 2004 by the weapons manufacturing company Lockheed Martin using military funding. The United States Armed forces were looking for a support defense robot that could protect troops in battle and provide ground support to troops under fire. The original Barricade units were heavily armor plated to protect them in combat and outfitted with force field generators. It wasn’t until later into the development process that an experimental Gravity Modulator was installed.
As part of the project, Lockheed Martin began implementing a newly developed AI system. Initially, it seemed to work exactly as intended. However, when the Gravity Modulator was installed into one of the units, some of its components began interfering with the AI systems. After modifying the AI system to make it compatible with the new software, the robot began exhibiting strange behavior. It wasn’t until later that the engineers discovered that they had actually given the robot emotions and free thought.
Despite the new development of emotion and autonomy in a robot, Lockheed Martin presented Project Barricade to the United States military in 2004, which, after witnessing a demonstration, immediately commissioned for more Barricade units to be developed. Nearly a year passed. However, not all was well. One of the Barricade units (the one that developed emotion) began disobeying orders and challenging the authority of his superior officers, even going so far as to writing to the secretary of the navy and the president requesting release from military service. He was denied his request. After all, he was just a Robot and property of the Government.
This did not deter Barricade, however, and he turned to the outside world, where he met one Tony Stark, multi-billionaire and president of Stark Industries. Tony, Intrigued by Barricade’s situation, offered to help. Eventually, and with the help of Tony, Barricade was able to take his case to the Supreme Court. After a year of Political battles with the military and several months of deliberation, Barricade was finally offered Autonomy and granted United States citizenship.
After winning his freedom, Barricade went with stark, the only person who had treated him like a human other than the development team that had created him. Stark Told Barricade about The organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. After Tony explained that they were an organization designed to protect the planet, Barricade agreed to join. That was two days ago…
Barricade is a heavily armored assault robot that can generate force fields and manipulate the direction of gravity. He also possesses a pair of plasma cannons that are affixed to his forearms. A master in melee combat, he uses his speed to overcome opponents in close quarters combat. He also uses his sheer weight to slam opponents when closing distances. However, his current model didn’t leave much room for better hydraulics and would need to be modified to increase his strength. He is still stronger than the average person, though. Barricade is not the best strategist, but is amazing at thinking on his feet. Also, his experimental AI makes him difficult to hack or affect with psychic abilities.
Tall And slender, Barricade stands at a full 6 feet 5 inches and weighs in at exactly 600 pounds. His lower legs are around 1.5 times the size of his upper legs, which allows for increased flexibility while using the extra weight at the ends to increase centrifugal force when attacking. The arms follow the same design scheme, though the additional mass in the arms also allows room for the plasma cannons. His torso is roughly the same size as that of an average human of his size, though the shoulders are a little wider than a human’s would be. His Face is a set of three smooth pieces of metal that curve back around the sides and over the top of his head. The slits between them contain all of his visual, olfactory and auditory sensors. They also house the speakers he uses to communicate with others.
